Walk-Off Wild Pitch

Worcester, MA – The Worcester Bravehearts rallied from a 4-1 deficit Friday night to defeat the New Britain Bees in walk-off fashion at Fitton Field. 

The win moves the ‘Hearts to 24-31 on the season while New Britain drops to 30-25. 

Worcester got on the board in the first. A Cam Seymour (Southern Maine) RBI groundout scored Lewis Barnum (Bryant). 

A leadoff home run by New Britain’s Mark Coley (Rhode Island) in the second tied the game 1-1. 

In the third, Teddy Schoenfeld (MIT) gave New Britain the lead with a two-run triple that scored Tyler Pettorini (Ohio State) and Coley. The Bees added on another run when Schoenfeld came in on a passed ball, making the score 4-1. 

Two runs would score for Worcester in the fifth. An RBI single by Gavin Noriega (Marist) drove in Barnum. Noriega came home on a single by Andrew Chronister (Shippensburg). 

The Bravehearts would tie the game in the seventh inning when Sal Grinstead (Palm Beach State) scored on an RBI single by Mark Darakjy (Northeastern).

The winning run came across in the ninth. After singling to reach, Connor Peek (Holy Cross) advanced to second on a wild pitch. Peek took third on a sacrifice bunt by Matty Warren (Palm Beach Atlantic) and scored on another wild pitch. 

Bravehearts reliever Jared Kapurch (St. Petersburg) got the win. Kapurch pitched 1.2 innings, giving up no runs, no hits, and no walks. The loss went to Benny Wilson (George Washington) of New Britain. Wilson gave up an earned run in one third of an inning on one hit and one walk. 

The Bravehearts will be back at Fitton Field Saturday for a meeting with the Pittsfield Suns. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30.
