Local Players Shine in Win

Brockton, MA - The Worcester Bravehearts ended their five-game losing streak after defeating the Brockton Rox 6-4 on Thursday night.

It was a Worcester-school showcase for the Bravehearts as both Holy Cross and Worcester State were represented in the win. Connor Peek went 3-5 with two, two-run home runs, and Sean Scanlon pitched 6 1/3 innings with 10 strikeouts while giving up only two earned runs, both representing the Crusaders. Worcester State’s Ben Smith picked up the save by pitching 2 2/3 scoreless innings.

The Bravehearts took an early lead in the first inning after Jake Marquez (UMaine) scored on a double hit by Gavin Noriega (Marist). Marquez later hit a solo home run in the third inning.

Brockton threatened the Bravehearts by gaining four runs in the bottom of the 7th to make it 6-4, but ultimately could not pull through for the win.

The Bravehearts will take on the Pittsfield Suns tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. They return home to play the Brockton Rox Saturday at 1 p.m. The Saturday home game will be broadcast live on NESN, and the team will host their annual “sign day” where the first 150 people to bring a sign will also receive a free ticket to the Southwick Zoo.
