DI Signings Loaded With Talent
Worcester, MA - The Worcester Bravehearts announced their next wave of signings to their 2023 roster, which will feature 18 DI athletes from 10 states. Five of those players will play their spring ball in New England.
Headlining the class is Tommy Turner, the #1 ranked right-handed pitcher in Rhode Island according to Perfect Game. The UConn commit will come to the Bravehearts with plenty of big game experience, as in 2018 he led Coventry, RI to the Little League World Series. During the World Series run, Turner threw a perfect game in the New England Regional against Connecticut.
The Bravehearts will open the season with a plethora of talented arms as Jack Cropper, the #2 ranked right-handed pitcher in Massachusetts, will also be coming to Worcester. The Northeastern commit will join the Bravehearts after his senior season at Norwood High School. The talent will not only come from the mound this season. Infielder Antonio Morales, ranked a pre-season All-American and #7 in the Massachusetts class of 2023 by Perfect Game, will boost the Bravehearts lineup in 2023.
Worcester dipped into the Big 12 Conference in 2023, signing two players from Kansas State in Michael Dean and Logan Dobberstein. Out of Sugarland, Texas, Dean is a utility player who will give the Bravehearts versatility in the field. Dobberstein will work out of the bullpen after missing last season due to Tommy John surgery.
Rounding out the list of incoming Freshman is Dylan Obourne, who was recognized as Perfect Game’s C-USA Preseason Freshman of the Year. Obourne was a top prospect coming out of Westmount Collegiate Institute in Thornhill, Ontario and will be inserted into the Bravehearts starting rotation.
The Bravehearts and Bryant University have built a strong pipeline over the last couple of years, and that will continue in 2023 with three additional signings from Bryant, along with Hopkinton-native Vinny Purpura who was named in the local roster announcement. Greg Gorman, a towering left-handed first baseman will be inserted into the heart of Worcester’s lineup. Joining Gorman in the lineup will be shortstop Caden Dulin, who was recognized as a top-impact freshman in the America East by D1 Baseball. Columbia, MO- Native Toby Scheidt will be the final Bulldog announced, as he will work out of the bullpen for the ‘Hearts.
Another strong pipeline the Bravehearts have formed over the last couple of seasons has been with Fordham Baseball. This season the team will welcome two players from the Rams, including Dan Buccierio and Nate Rusher. Bucciero was the #3 ranked third baseman in Connecticut by Perfect Game and will man the corners at Fitton Field. Rusher played his high school baseball at Southlake Carroll High School in Texas, where he won a state championship posting a 1.20 ERA.
Other Division I signings include Champ Davis and Stan Zagrodnik from Wofford, JT Raab from Stony Brook, Charlie West from UConn, Kobe Stenson from Siena and Mikey Florides from Hofstra.
