The Worcester Bravehearts will host the 2nd Annual Sports Management Summit to promote discussion and idea-sharing about the growing sports industry in Central Massachusetts. The event will take place on Friday, January 17 at Worcester State University’s DeFeudis Wellness Center and will feature a keynote address, job and internship fair, and panel discussions throughout the day. Students and sport enthusiasts are encouraged to attend.
The Summit’s purpose is to help connect college & high school students interested in a career in the sports industry with professionals from consulting firms, event marketing companies, and sports teams. The Summit is scheduled to run from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
“The Worcester Bravehearts want to lead the discussion about the sports industry in Central MA,” said Bravehearts General Manager Dave Peterson. “It’s important to help these current students connect with executives who could provide them career opportunities on their way to becoming the next generation of sport leaders.”
Guests will also have the opportunity to ask questions to dozens of other industry professionals during the panel discussions in the morning. Sessions will feature between 2 - 4 panelists representing different companies in the sports industry. Panelists are already confirmed from organizations such as the Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins, New York Mets, Worcester Railers, New Hampshire Fisher Cats and the American Athletic Conference.
“We heard from many students who attended last year that the Worcester Sports Management Summit led them to internships and jobs in the industry,” said Jeff Gaucher of the Bravehearts, who is the event coordinator of the Worcester Sports Management Summit. “We expect another 25 businesses to take part in the job & internship fair again this year.”
The entire event is sponsored by Nichols College, whose Sports Management Program prepares students for leadership positions across the growing sports industry. Students are taught by industry professionals with decades of experience in the field and are exposed to many facets of the industry. Students are also given real-life experience in the field and have previously had internships with organizations including the Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, and Madison Square Garden.
“This Sport Summit, organized by the Worcester Bravehearts, rivals any sport career fair in the industry,” said Tim Liptrap, Nichols College Sports Management Program Chair. “I tell our students if you can only attend one career fair, this should be it. If you are a high school student thinking about a career in sports, this is the place you want to be. You get to meet team representatives and learn about the industry first-hand.”
The event is also sponsored by TD Bank, a well-known brand in the sports industry because of its naming rights agreement with TD Garden and the TD Beach to Beacon 10K Road Race.
